About this project
Dallas spends tens of millions of dollars a year on code compliance. Residents say conditions are worse than ever. This project exists to document the gap between what the department is funded to do and what it actually delivers — in public, with sources.
How we work
Public records first
Every figure we publish is drawn from public budgets, official reports, and reported data — and cited to its source. If we cannot source it, we do not print it.
Performance, not personalities
The focus is the documented performance of the department: response times, enforcement consistency, unresolved-violation trends, and how spending maps to outcomes.
Corrections welcome
If a figure is wrong or missing context, tell us. We publish corrections promptly and keep a record of what changed and when.
Independent
This is an independent accountability project. It is not affiliated with any campaign, and it accepts no direction from the department it documents.
Have a record to share?
If you have filed a complaint that went nowhere, or you have documents that show how the department operates, we want to see them. Accountability is built on evidence.
